Over 20% of talent aged between 18-34-year-olds can say they have been recruited via social networks! This comes to light from a study this year by full media communications agency UM London.
As if we had not thought this already, this study offers further evidence of the changing recruitment landscape and how the social web is now a credible tool for candidates when looking for a career.Professional social sites liked LinkedIn are seen in the study as a vital sourcing tool by employers, with 25% reviewing possible future hires by searching through their social media profiles.
The study’s creator, Claire Spencer commented: “People are using the internet across more and more aspects of their lives and finding a job or recruiting someone is no exception.
“People need to start thinking about their social profiles as ‘shop windows’ or ‘online CVs’ in order to stand out in an increasingly difficult jobs market.”
If you look on the web today you will find many other commentators, studies and white papers offering evidence agreeing with what UM London are reporting, yet there are still candidates and employers alike not yet up to speed with their individual or corporate strategies on how they must approach this accelerating medium of communication.
It’s not for lack of information out there, nor is it because they know something everyone else does not! So it must be either the inertia that comes with the fear of a changing environment or as providers of services and knowledge, we are not communicating our message in a way they understand! In my opinion it is more than likely a mix of them both.
So my request: to all who should read this article! I ask that we re-double our efforts when working with and talking to any candidates or employers who are not totally comfortable on how to make their social talent attraction experience a successful one. Share our knowledge in a language they understand, which in turn will have a positive impact on the economic markets we all operate in!
Keep Communicating!
